3DT 03: Keyblade
Today is the 10th anniversary of the release of Kingdom Hearts. I have a lot of respect for the KH franchise so I thought I’d pay homage by attempting to model the original keyblade.
This turned out to be considerably more work than originally expected (several hours went into this believe it or not).
I really should follow some tutorials on how to use Blender, there must be simpler ways to do what I was doing.
Anyway here’s the render, I might work more on this at some point, I wouldn’t really call it finished.

If I work more on this I’ll post a video up on my Youtube Channel

Sam! Why must you keep reminding me of wonderful moments from my childhood?! – and thanks for making me feel REAL old now by reminding me it’s been 10 years since Kingdom Hearts initial release, which makes me pose this question to you sir:
Considering that franchises are a dime a dozen these days and Kingdom Hearts is one of the most beloved JRPG’s of all time [ behind Final Fantasy or Chrono Trigger of course ]…
… WHY ON THIS FLUFFY GREEN PLANET CAN’T I HAVE KINGDOM HEARTS 3 YET? >_<
There are countless franchises right now that put out a sequel almost every year it seems [ Final Fantasy puts out so many I can taste the Roman numerals growing from my nostrils…] I mean think about it in the 10 year time since Kingdom Hearts we've had franchises like:
Uncharted, Assassins Creed, Gears of War, Halo, etc.
All of these games have had quite successful franchises, but they have incredibly quick turn around times. Now I know the argument might be, "Oh, but what about those handheld versions? The DS and PSP ones are good right?" Well, in my personal opinion, they're like a very long awaited intermission. You see Kingdom Hearts is a game that I hold a load of value to in my life. I'm an avid Disney fan, and I love Square Enix style and design of their games. The problem comes when this passion for both gets intervened by mild mannered 'appetite cleansers' they like to call the handheld games.
These games don't help me grow with my story, and while they are good in their own right, these games really are just additional side quest type stories that avert my eyes from the real issue at hand. The Wizard of Oz is playing games with me and I can clearly see his foot behind the curtain, but he refused to give up any information. This is how I feel about the current Kingdom Hearts trend. I just want to feel like Kingdom Hearts is just as important a series to the gaming universe as any other and when you leave gamers sitting in wake for 5+ years on a game that you've teased for some time now…
I just want my epic Disney battle finale. That's all. What do you think man? Do you agree? Why can't Sora and Mickey be as important to Square as say Lightning or Hope? It's just sad really that they keep delaying the inevitable.
On the non-ranting side of things: Great work by the way man!
Thanks 😀
Thanks, I refuse to believe it’s been 10 years either, time flies.
I’ve not played FF in a while, perhaps I might get back into them over summer.
I can’t believe it’s taken so long to finish the series, but I suppose they’re trying to milk the franchise for all it’s worth before they put an end to it. I hope it comes out soon, even though I doubt I’d be able to play it, I could still swoon over the cutscenes on youtube or permanently borrow a friend’s PS3.
I purposely bought a PS3 for the sole purpose of playing KH3 and I ended up selling it because I never used it.
I’ve played some bits and pieces from the DS games and I agree with you, I don’t consider them to be a real part of the story, they’re just filler.
They really should bring KH3 out soon or Sora will be about 40 and the game will just be sad, I hope they slightly age Sora and the others, but not extremely, it’s still Disney after all. I just checked and KH2 was released about 7 years ago, so Sora definitely should have aged.
I really want the series to end too, it has been amazing up until now and I just think it needs to tie off the loose ends so it can be complete.
