I’ve been thinking about this for a while and as it’s the day of the Grand National, it seems like an appropriate time to talk about gambling.

Don’t get me wrong, I like the occasional pub quiz machine, but it’s more of a social thing, seeing who knows the answers, I don’t expect to win anything.

I think the problem starts when people start to see gambling as a get-rich-quick scheme and genuinely believe that they’re going to win because ‘they’re lucky’ or they ‘have a system’ and start betting money they can’t afford to lose.

In the end however, the house always wins.
